About Enable Vision

About Enable Vision

We wish to actively participate in the eradication of poverty stemming from lack of education specifically from vision impairment. Globally 60 million school aged children suffering from myopia cannot reap the full benefit of available educational programs. Poor vision is a major problem to education, quality of life and economic potential of young people. Assisting with one of the fundamental pillars needed to rise from poverty.

The problem

The problem

Poor vision is a common setback faced by billions of people around the world. While over 100 Million children aged 12-18 are diagnosed with myopia (nearsightedness), more than 60% of them are unable to seek professional help to correct their vision when needed. Although refractive error is rectified regularly around the world, underdeveloped nations lack access to this luxury. The negative implications go beyond the obvious difficulty to see. Learning at school becomes problematic as young people lack focus, their academic confidence lowers, social participation decreases and resultantly, the economic potential of their communities is also diminished.

The solution

The solution

Enable vision believes that there are five underlying reasons for why people do not have access to suitable eyeglasses- awareness, access, affordability, attractiveness, and inability to provide an accurate prescription. Taking these factors into account, they have introduced their new self-adjustable glasses. Designed especially for young people aged between 12-18, the glasses are mass-produced in a variety of colours, keeping costs down without compromising aesthetics, and to withstand rough use in challenging circumstances anywhere in the world.
How do they work? It’s as simple as getting a basic screening test, adjusting the lens to suit, sealing the lens, and removing the adjusters.
Simply making the glasses is not enough; they also have to get to young people who need them. As self-refraction does not require highly trained optometric professionals, enable vision aims to distribute these glasses through innovative classroom-based programs, with the adjustment process supervised by teachers.
